Dinteranthus van Zylii.

Postby pvdw » Fri Nov 17, 2017 9:21 pm

Hi all.

I know that this is no Lithops but I do like to add them to my collection.

Any suggestions on planting, germinating and care for the young??

Dinteranthus are said to love heat conditions for gemination, but in my experience they need a difference in temperatures between day and night.

I would agree to this - I always sowed them together with my Lithops, therefore under the same conditions:
warm at day, cold at night (16 degrees centigrade).

Interesting info. After 10 days no seedlings yet. Will see what I can do to get bigger temp diff between day and night.

I was told by a very experienced Lithops that the Dinteranthus seeds need to be exposed to full sun before planting them for about 2 weeks. I did so, and some germinated, but I believe my soil mix was not good.

Some feedback on my first Dinteranthus atempt.

Today is day 15 agter sowing. Had an intense search amoung the gravel for some live. And yes, the first 2 green pins are standing there like miniarure lithops seedlings. They make lithops look like giants when germinating :D

Will keep you posted.
