Poor habitat pollination

Postby Allan1 » Sun Jan 25, 2015 10:09 pm

It would appear to have been a bad year for pollination of Lithops in their natural habitat. As a result there is not the seed available, that there was last year. I have not heard why this occurred and can only hope that this year will be better.

Would you know more about this situation Allan? I hope that Lithops enthusiasts and growers worldwide will continue to grow and collect Lithops seeds and in turn help to protect and continue the Lithops population. :)

I thought when we bought seed it was taken from greenhouse grown plants? Is there any need to continue to collect from wild plants?

Hello Mounen, most of the Lithop seed is produced commercially, but some seed is collected by locals for a wholesale seed supplier. This helps protect the plants in habitat.
