In South Africa it is common to find collectors who have pots and pots of Lithops of the same species and/or cultivar. This is not so elsewhere.

In my view Lithops prosper under filtered, diffused light so they do not get burnt by the sun, but receive part of them. It depends where the grower lives and the season when it comes to filtering the light.
